STIFF FIGHTING.
MOORISH REBELS ATTACK A STRONGHOLD. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Received 10.10 p.m., April 13. London, April 12. Five thousand Moorish rebels rushed down the valley; threatening the strong hold at Frajana, but were checked by defenders’ volloys. The rebels’ powder supply then exploded. Many were killed and the rest withdrawn. Advices from Melila, a Spanish settlement on the north coast of Morocco, state that a projectile fell on Spanish territory during the fight. It is also stated that the Moorish Pretender vainly tried to secure recognition of his claims by Spain when compelled by Muleyamrain, his uncle, to take refuge. Melilla Muleyamrain has appealed for reinforcements to prevent Frajana surrendering to the rebels. The Pretender’s offer of a pardon to the defenders of Frajana was refused.
