NEWTOWN PATRIOTIC LEAGUE
Per Press Association* WELLINGTON, last night, A' mass meeting under the auspices of (he Newtown Patriotic League has decided to petition the Governor for a fresh local option poii in Newtown district, wiiere the previous poll was quashed owing to irregularities.
MOCK ELECTIONS, At one of the principal schools here the scholars are being equipped for the time when they will have to exercise their responsibilities as electors. Mock elections are being held, and ballot papers used similar to those issued for the Parliamentary and local optian polls. N.Z, RUGBY UNION, ...Tlie Secretary of the New Zealand Rugby Union lias received a letter from Sydney, giving the following probable dates i'or (lie matches with tlie New Zealand footballers:— In Sydney, lStli and 25th July ; in Brisbane, Ist and Nth August ;in Sydney, 15th August, The above will he representative matches, and probably one of the days mentioned will be allotted for a combined match, New South Wales and Queensland v. New Zealand. The dates of minor matches have not yet been determined.
