WAIPIRO CARNIVAL BALL.

Not least among tho many attractions of Carnival Week on tho Bast Coast was tho Waipiro Carnival Ball. This took placo last Friday, and, though tho weather during tho day was showery, thero was a largo and representative attendance. Mr A. D. Williams kindly lent his spacious wool-shed for tho occasion, and an energetic committee succeeded fay tasteful decorations in converting it into a really beautiful ball-room. Dancing commenced at 8 p.m., and was kept up with much spirit until 4 a.m. During theso fleeting hours each ono prosent seemed never to havo known trouble or sorrow, happinoss beaming from ovory countenance. From a spectacular point of view tho scene was a most picturesquo one. Much of the onjoyableness of tho evening was duo to the excellent music rendered by several of

tho guests. By their skilful playing on tho piano Mrs obonvood, Mrs White, Miss Parsons and Miss Amy Spence drove away all thoughts of the outer world, and caused all present to indulge iu tho pleasure of harmonious movements. An efficient amateur orchestra of stringed instruments also contributed to tho success of the evening. A portion of tho hall had been partitioned off for a supper room, whero an excellent supper was provided by Messrs Buchanan and Co., of Auckland. Great praise is due to Mr Sydney Burdett who acted as M.C. with untiring attention, and displayed great tact in carrying out the many arduous duties that the position includes. Included among thoso present wero Mrs Blaeklow, Mrs Bonsfield, Miss Brett, Misses Budgo (2), Miss Burke, Miss Clark, Mrs Cotterrill, Mrs Cowley, Mrs Dines, Mrs Downey, Mrs Duff, Miss Farrell, Mrs Fry, Miss Ferrard, Miss Hargreaves, Mrs Hughes, Miss Ivettlewell, Mrs Murphy, Miss McDonald, Mrs Napier, Mrs Nurse, Miss Orr, Mrs O’Ryan, Miss Parsons, Miss Poston, Miss Ross, Mrs Sherwood, Misses Spence (2), Miss Tuhler, Misses Wall (2), Miss Maud Wallis, Miss Eva Williams, Mrs White.
