A. AND P. SOCIETY.

Thoro was a record attendance at the annual moetiDg of the Poverty Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society, held on Saturday, Mr T. Holding (president) being in the chair.

The committee’s report was in every respect a satisfactory one. Mention was made of the fact that an alteration had been made in the manner in which the Society’s books were kept, and for the first time the exact financial position of the Society was shown. The assets included plant £llO 13s, furniture £8 2s, sundry debtors £62 6s, fixed deposit in Union Bank £l5O, cash in bank £lO2 15s, total £433 16s. Balance of assets over liabilities, £4OB 11s 10s. Tho Treasurer (Mr L. T. Symes) explained as to an apparent loss in the working of last year of £6B 10s sd. It was, he said, hardly fair to credit that to the loss account, as £6l 15s of old debts were written off as not recoverable. If the Society got those debts it would come back as profit. On the other hand, there was £62 0s lOd of expenses which would not occur in the ensuing year. These two items amounted altogether to £lO4 2s lOd, and without those the positions would have been reversed to the extent that tho Society would have shown a credit of £35 instead of a loss of £6B odd.

Mr A. F. Kennedy said that Mr Eliott and himself had carefully audited the balance-sheet, and they could congratulate the Society upon having their books in perfect order. This was tho first time that the auditors had been able to make an audit that they could put satisfactorily boforp the Society and subscribe their names to it as being a correct statement of affairs. Hitherto, for many years tho books were kept on a very bad system, and the true position of the Society was not disclosed by the state of the books. Tho election of officers for the ensuing year was then proceeded with, with the following result: —President, Mr T. HoldeD ; Vice-President, Mr A. Dewing; Committee, Messrs F. Barker, C. Gray, C. White, G. E. Eliott, W. W. Smith, H. N. Watson, W. Bell, J. A. C.csar, M. H. Strachan, D. Kirkpatrick, W. G. Sherratt, A. H. Wallis ; Treasurer, Mr L|. T Symes; Auditors, Messrs Kennedy and Eliott.

Messrs W. B. Common, J. Biddles, J. L. Perry, C. H. Fenwick, H. Bailey, and J. K. Goudy were elected members of the Society. A notice of motion, “ That it be a recommendation to the incoming Committee to fix a date for the annual show not later than October loth,” was discussed at some length, but on being put to the meeting was lost, tho opinion of the meeting being almost unanimous against a change being made.

: It was decided to grant a bonus of £2O to the Secretary.
