Advices have been received by a Wellington firm that has its commercial finger practically on the pulse of the meat market, stating that the position of affairs as regards the depletion of Australian stock requirements has been exaggerated, that the necessary importation of stock from New Zealand will be small; on the other hand the same firm received earlier advices from other sources that the mortality amongst sheep had been underestimated, and that probably there were now in that colony only 15,000,000 sheep, instead of 20,000,000 previous to the drought.
