The Gisborne Times PUBLISHED EVERY MORNING. GISBORNE, MARCH 24, 1903. BRAVE MEN.
Following up the agitation in Hie Tint's for some recognition or Uw bravery shown when Mr Ivar Iloiby. lost his life, the Humane Society has issued a certificate of merit, in vellum, to he forwarded to the next of kin to the drowned man. We are pleased at the Society doing something in the matter t hut we j again urge the necessity of suitably, acknowledging the bravery of Mr Charles Hasen. His case has been ably represented by correspondents, and if the Society, is what it claims and wc all believe it to be, the bravery that was shown on that day by Mr Hansen will be suitably, recognised.... If the Society fails to do anything in this matter, the Times does not intend to allow the subject to be forgotten. We have, however, preferred Tor the time being, at least, to leave the matter to the Society, which is undoubtedly the proper body, to deal with such matters, and there is n 0 desire to detract from that authority —but we may. as well frankly say, without any hesitation, that if the Society fails to recognise the bravery of Mr Charles Hansen, it will have signally failed to act up to that position which it occupies in the public mimL ,
