THE DRINK BILL.

Tho Rev. E. Walkor has taken out the drink bill of the colony for 1891. There was a gradual increase in consumption for the previous five years from £2 19s 84d per head of population in 1896 to £3 10s 3Jd in 1901, or Is 4d per head for the quinquennium. Last year this increase was not continued, the amount being 413 10s SJd, representing a decrease of Bd. The gross expenditure for 1901 was £2,922,982, and for 1902 £2,953,298, an increase of £30,316. The consumption of spirits was 602,021 gallons, which at £2 per gallon gives £1 8s 8d per head ; of wines 126,440 gallons, or 6s per head ; imported beer, 221,520 gallons, or 1b s£d per head ; colonial beer, 7,790,600 gallons, or £1 14s 2d per head.
