OLD MEN’S HOME.
COMMITTEE RECOMMENDS THE WAIKANAE SITE.
At the meeting of the Charitable Aid Board last night tho committee appointed to select a suitable site for an Old Men’s Refuge reported: — ■“ After giving the question very careful consideration, the committee suggest that the new building for the Old Men’s Home be built upon a portion of the Council’s reserve at the beach. This site your commute considers very suitable, both as regards locality and quality of soil, the present sandy nature of the soil being admirably suited for the manure that will be available from abattoirs and night works. The inmates being old and liable to rheumatism it- would not be advisable to put them on a low-lying or damp piece of ground. We therefore recommend that ten acres at the town end of the cemetery site be secured from the Council.”
Cr Jones: The subject is a very important one. Would it not be better to deal with it before a fuller meeting ? It was resolved to postpone the subject to next meeting.
