In the annual report of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, reference was made to the pillage of cargo, and merchants were urged to continue reporting cases of loss, as the London Chamber was continuing to prosecute its work in conjunction with tile Loudon police force. The Council had considerable correspondence with tlie Government on the question of the settlement of the waste lands of the province. The lit-
tle land offered had been eagerly snapped tiv. At ihe moment, some action had been taken by the Government, and there was little doubt that land offered would be easily settled.
Experiments are still being conducted by Mr Gilruth to ascertain the cause of the mortality amongst horses and cattle in the Winton district.
