Aflorwards, accompanied by a young lady understood to he his u'iece, he embarked on the liner La Lorraine at Harve for America. He previously registered as Monsieur and Mdlle. Adreoni. He took one of the finest dock suites. After sailing he told the purser that it was a mistake—their real names were J. W. Wright and Miss Brown. At the instance of the London police a New York detective yesterday arrested him aboard tho La Lorraine on a charge of being a fugitive from tho police. He showed no excitement, but expressed surprise at the arrest. He declarod that the whole affair was a business transaction, which he understood had been settlod by Parliament. The Magistrate at Tonibes Police Court ordered him to gaol. An early extradition is expected. Miss Brown stated that she was visiting friends. She alighted at Aibermario Hotel.
The Government having refused to prosecute Wright owing to what was considered a defect in the law, a private movement was initiated and funds raised for ths purpose of taking proceedings against him, and owing to this movement a warrant has been issued for his arrest. Wright is accused of issuing traudulent balance-sheets in connection with the various companies associated with tho London and Globe Finance Corporation.
