A GREAT RECEPTION. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyrigh 1 Received 1.1 a.un, March 16. London, March 15.

Mr Balfour, Lord Roberts, the Duke of Devonshire, Lord Strathcona, and the Agents-General for the Colonies and three hundred notabilities welcomed Mr Chamberlain at Waterloo station. Though the route through tho streets was kept secret at Mr Chamberlain’s request, he had a great reception by crowds, chiefly working men and women, at Westminster Bridge and Princess Gate. On Mr and Mrs Chamberlain’s arrival at Southampton, Lord Selbourne with a deputation from Birmingham, boarded tho Norman at seven in tho morning. After Mr Chamberlain’s reply, which included a high tribute to Mrs Chamberlain, the Mayor aud Corporation escorted them to Hartley Hall, where an address from tho Southampton Corporation was presented in tho presence of 1200 people. Mr Chamberlain’s first words, in replying, were : “ I warn you in your generous appreciation of my work not to over-estimate the results actually achieved. We cannot in tho twinkling of an eye undo a long record of vacillation and weakness. We may readily accept the Boer and Dutch loaders' assurances to accept the new situation.”
