The W.C.T.U. is usually “ down ” on osculation and violently averse to gambling. But this paragraph appeared in its Adelaide organ (the Alliance News) for the current mouth :—“ I’m so certain that
I’m right,” she said “ that I’ll bet you a kiss.” “ Against what ? ” ho asked. “ Against another kiss, of course,” she answered. He was thoughtful for a moment. 11 That settles it,” he said at last. “ I’ve found a game that permits both parties to win. Let’s double the stakes.”
•*• Benjie ” : Charity has been preached for 1900 years, and *■ the time is not ripe ” for its practice. I suggest, as a man who has conscientiously avoided church for over 20 years, a church chanty-tax. There are 640,000 electors in N.S.W.; so, surely at least 240,000 attend church. A penny apiece would give £IOOO a week, with which much could be done. And, if my suggestion were adopted, the number of church goers would at once increase.
