FIRE BRIGADES DEMONSTRATION.

By Tolegraph—Press Association. Napier, last night. At the Fire Brigades Demonstration today there was a good attendance, notwithstanding that the weather was slightly cold and showery. A protest was entered against Dunn, of Ashburton, taking second place in one-man manual engine event, decided yesterday, on the ground that he failed to leave the lever clear. The Appeal Committee upheld the protest. This places Urey mouth second, Spit third, and Tiiuaru and lvangiora a tie fur lourth place. The buse, reel and ladder event, for five men, was won by Hiuvcra, 59 2 5 sec; Mustertou, 59 3-ssec, second; Napier, 61 2-osec, third; Thames, 62sec, lourth ; Spit, 63 l-osce, fifth. The manual engine three-men event was won by Christchurch, who tied with Spit for first place, with 50 4 ssec each, and won the run off in oosee, Spit taking 2-ssec longer. Ashburton and Timaru, with 54 4-ssec each, tied for third and fourth places, dividing the money, Ashburton taking third position. Greymouth was fifth, the time being 53sec in the run-off' for fourth and fifth places. In the one-m.an manual event Rangiora won in 50sec, Timaru taking 61 4-ssec, both times beating that of the Christchurch City representative, who won the event. The manual engine, five men competition, and the coupling event, two men, have been commenced. Gore, 42 4 ssec, is at present leadiug for the former, and Hawera for the latter event. In the aggregates for Sliand, Mason and Co.’s Shield, Hawera is at present leadiug with ten points, Christchurch second with eight points, and Napier and Spit next with seven points each. For the high pressuro shield Hawera is also loading with ten points, Napier second with soven points. In the manual engine, Christchurch holds a practically unassailable position, with seven points, the nearest of the others boing Ashburton and Lawrence with three points each.
