PROM £150,000 TO BANKRUPTCY.

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, Feb. 27. John Phillip Lawson, examined in bankruptcy, stated that at one time be was worth £150,000. In 1896 he arrived in New Zealand from London, as a mining engineer for three companies, at a salary of £3OOO per year for three years. The mines proved worthless. In connection with one of these companies he paid £I6OO as wages, and did not get tho money back. He came to Sydney in 1901. Miss Kate Gallagher got judgment against him for £l5O. Ho had been speculating for her in New Zealand and lost the amount. He did not enter a defence because he expected to be able to pay the claim. The matter was adjourned.
