Madame Melba gave her Wellington concert at the Opera House to-night vsays tiie Auckland special corresponcent) before a great audience, who crowded every part of the building. Slu gave six songs, the celebrated aria of “ Lucia,” the “ Mad Scene ” iron: “ Hamlet,” and Arditi's “Te Saran Rose,” ami as encore pieces. Three Green Bonnets ” (a ballad by Guv Dhardelot), “ Coinin’ thro' the Rye,” and Tosti’s “ Goodbye. Madame Melba displayed a marvellous technique, overcoming the formidable dillieulties of the arias with astonishing ease. The audience became enthusiastic towards the close of the concert, and cheered her heartily when she came forward after persistent calls to sing Tost.iis “ Goodbye.” Miss Elva Rogers, the contrail o of the company ; Mr Walter Kirby (formerly of Auckland), the tenor ; Signorina Sassoli, the harpist ; Miss Liewela Davis, the pianist; Mi Frederick Griffiths, tiie flautist ; j were ah well received. It is estimated that the seats of the house represented a value of nearly fourteen hundred pounds, believed to be a recant fat the colenv.
