Dunedin, last night.

There was a double function to-day in connection with the electric trams. The first was affixing a tablet to tho bridge over the water of the Leith at George street, and the second was turning the first sod in the work of the construction of the electric tram service for city and suburbs. The Mayor officiated at each. Xle estimated the cost at £220,000 for everything, but excluding the £40,000 paid for the tramway. It is anticipated the trams will be running in the city within uine nonths.
