A SUICIDE.
'(Per Press Association.)' Wanganui, last night. On Saturday afternoon, a man named Eli Salt, aged 53 years, and a farmer residing about 20 miles from Wanganui, committed suicide by jumping off the town bridge. Deceased was ill. At the inquest to-day a verdict of suicide while temporarily insane was returned.
The defeat of the Wanganui Garrison Band by Wellington at the recent contest has given rise to some very outspoken criticisms at Wanganui. The local Herald says“ There is a general feeling of great dissatisfaction about certain occurrences at the recent band contest at Mas-tert-on, and the only point about which there is anything like universal agreement is that the Wanganui Garrison Band fairly and squarely won both the test selections and the championship, in addition to the honors accredited to them in Other coin petitions, and that in some mysterious way they have been deprivod of their just rights. The wholo_ business is a sorry one, and leaves a stain on the fair fame of the North Island Brass Bands’ Association that will never be removed."
