TE ARAI SCHOOL PICNIC.

Tho To Aiai school picnic and sports wero hold yesterday in one of Mr Clark’s paddocks, and tho largo attendance ot children and parents showed great interest taken in this annual gathering. Tho picnic was in every way a pronounced success, and tho ground was the whole day a scone of enjoyment for tho childron. They woro in cbargo of their toachers, Mr Quigley, temporary headmaster, and Miss Baigent, mistress, who were untiring in their efforts for tho children’s enjoyment. Tho Committee, consisting of Messrs Baird (Chairman), Preston, Daulton, Roberts, Finucano, Albert, and Nicholl, were hard at work the whole day, their arduous duties being rewarded by the happy facos of tho childron. The tables wero in charge of a strong committeo of ladies of thu district, and were loaded with good things, which were dono full justice to. During the afternoon, a number of visitors were present from town, including the iatu mastor, Mr Crawford. The chief amusomont was the sports provided for tho children, and there were largo entries for oach event. Tho winners woro the recipients of handsomo prizes, while all tho smaller children of the school each received a prize. Tho special thanks of the Committee arc duo to all those ladios who so genorously provided all tho good things for the childron, and carried out the management of the tables. Tho Committeo also dcsiro to thank all the business peoplo of the town who contributed towards tho prizes. After tea, tho childron assomDlod and woro addressed by Mr Baird. Before going homo, cheers wore given for Miss Baigent and Mr Quigley, the members of tho Committeo, Mr Clark for tho use of the ground, and all those who had helped to make the picnic such a success.
