POVERTY BAY TURF CLUB’S SUMMER MEETING. Glorious weather favored tho Poverty Bay Turf Club for the first day’s races of their Summer meeting. There was a large attendance and speculation was brisk throughout tho day, the sum of £3439 being passed through tho totaltsutor, as against £3184 on tho first day last year. Excellent arrangements were made lor tho conduct of the meeting, and tho Secretary, Mr J. M. Cumming, is to bo congratulated upon the full rneasuro of success attained. Tho Gisborne Rifles
Band, undor Buridumster McKillop, woro stationed on tbo lawn, and enlivened tho proceedings with a choice selection of popular airs. Tho following aro the results : 1. Wilson cut out the running for the first half-mile, when ho was joined by A.B.N. Racing along tho back stretch Tauhei flattered the hopes of her admirers, but fell back again before the field faced for home. A.B.N. was first into tho straight, followed by Putty and Tauhei. Buchanan got in a strong run with Putty from the distance, but he could not get up to A.8.N., who won like a thorough tradesman with a couple of lengths to spare, Tauhei a length away third, Ballynoety fourth, Wilson fifth, and Pinepinotekura last. Time, 2.12,}. There were 606 inventors on the machine, and the dividends wore £3 17s and 17s. B.
