rOVEKTY BAY TURF CLUB’S SUMMER MEETING. (By Early Bird.) Tho Summer Meeting of the abovo club commences at Makaraka to-day, and as thoro is every prospect of fine weather thero should bo a largo attendance. Tho course is in splendid order, and excellent arrangements for tho meoting havo been made by the secrotary, Mr J. M. Cummings. As usual, tho starting will be in tho capable hands of Mr Harry. Piper, which is sufficient guarantee that owners and the public will havo no cause for complaint. Mr J. Craig will havo chargo of tho catering. Tho first race starts at 12.40 p.ui. The R'Ues Band will discourse music throughout tho afternoon. Tho club has deeidod to pay first and second dividends on races in which thero are six starters aro morn. Trains leave Gisborno at 9 a.m., 12, 1.10, 5.20, and 0.10, returning from Makuraka at 11.00, 12.30, 1.30, and 5.50. The return fare from Gißborne, including admission to tho course, is 2s 6d. EGMONT RACES. Per Press Association, Hawera, last night. For tho Egmont races there was fine woathor and a good attendance. Tho results wore Flying Handicap.—Shrapnel 1, West Guard 2, Landlook 3. Scratched : Oingo, Okoari, and Perfection. Won from start to finish. Time 1.17, divs. £2 13s 6d and 19s. Hack Flat Handicap.—Black Reynard 1, Matuku 2, Wairoka 3. Fine finish. Won by a nose. Scratched : Coma, Taka* rawa, Rustiquo, Black Cat, Fair Jess, Silver Star, Picklock, Lady Forost, iDglewood. Time 1.18, divs. £5 4s and 19a 6d. First Handicap Hurdles.—Kobonui 1, Miss Drury 2, Cairo 3. Scratched : Light. May Day, Lady Bell. Won easily by four longths, At the third hurdle Rufus fell, bringing down Waiwera and Eclair, McGregor, the rider of Rufus, being soverely shaken. Time 3.32 1-5, divs. £7 12s 6d and £1 7s. Hack Hurdles.—Lingard 1, Wostorly 2, India 3. Won fairly easily. Scratched : Evermore, Hawera, Moturoa, Hillflower, Nuggett, Mahino, Tahutikaha. Time 2.51 3-5. Egmont Cup.—Motor 1, Ancborito 2, Tradowind 3. Scratched: Floka and Bello Colo. After tbo start Halberdier wont to the front with Motor and Gil* nockie, Battleaxe and Rita lying last. At tho mile Motor was running at the head of affairs, soemingly with a lot in hand. Battloaxo made au effort, but could not head the leador, and dropped back.
