' ' ' ' w ] A meeting of tho management committeo of tho above Association was held it, on Saturday evening, and was attended by Messrs D. 0. Hawkins (in the chair), J. A. Caesar, J. W. Barlow, H. E. Hill, J. V. Macdonald, and \V. Gibson, hon. sec. The chief business was tho arrangomonts for tho forthcoming representative match E with Hawke’s Bay on the 28th inst. It was decided that the match should bo played on the Ormond ground, and Messrs Hawkins and Barlow wore deputed to inspect the ground with Mr Caesar, and make all arrangements necessary for putting it in first-class order. Mr Caesar was empowered to arrango with Mr C. Keenan to have lunch supplied in the Ormond Halk Arrangements were also made for afternoon tea on the ground. Messrs Nolan (President) and Gibson 4 were appointed to interview the railway authorities and endeavor to arrange for a ( special train in the afternoon, to leave town about 1 o’clock. Messrs A. Crawford, D. C. Hawkins, and \V. Gibson were appointed a selection committee to pick tho Poverty Bay team. It was decided to play a trial match ou Victoria Domain next Saturday, probable eloven v. next fifteen. The selectors should be able to get togethor a good sido, ns they have threo Coast Clubs —Tuparoa, Tokomaru, and Tolago —to draw upon, besides the local players. It was decided to charge one shilling admission to the ground. Mr Cicsar intimated that tho ladies of Ormond, who have ever been most kind to cricketers, had generously offored to supply afternoon-tea. The greatest interest, it was stated, is boing taken in tho match, which will be tho most important fixture playod hero for .many seasons past, and it was confidently anticipated that there would bo a large number of spectators at Ormond to sec the game on Saturday week. There svas a good muster of players at Victoria Domain ou Saturday afternoon, when a practice game was played between sides chosen by Porter and Gibson. The former’s sido batted first, and mado 100. E. Sharp was a long time at tho wickets, and stono-walled doggedly for a scoro of 87, not out. Porter played a free innings for 29. McCounell (11) was tho only other batsman to reach doublo figures. Iveson and Winter bowled well, and divided the wickets. Gibson’s side could only total 86 against the bowling of Temple and McConnell. Buby, who put 15 togetbor nicely, was the only batsman to make a stand.
