ECCENTRIC INSURANCES.

Madamo’Patti’s voice is “ underwritten” for £IOOO a performance, or for £BOOO for total loss of voice. But the famous singer is believed to have benofitted twice only from insurance profits. Tho enquiries made at Lloyd’s are often of tho most eccentric character. One of the most remarkable is the case of a timid gentleman who wishes to be insured. He is afraid to walk at night for fear of hooligans! There are ladies who appeal for insurance against bonofits in the way of a family. Twins, for instance, they do not regard as a benefit, and against such doubtful blessings they anxiously inquire if they may be insured. Kubelik, the great violinist, at the present moment has a question on the books at Lloyd’s. He asks if he may be insured against any possible injury to his right arm. Another famous artist—the boxing kangaroo—has' tabled at the same office a pathetic inquiry as to tho possibilities of its insurance. There is also the well-known instance of tho whale that was ■ abducted from its native seas to find a new home in the Aquarium. It Is believed that Leviathan was insured against tho risks of his migration. One of tho most curious is the case of insurance against damago done to tho figure of a marble angol in a churchyard. One would have thought that angels, even' marble angola, would be independent of those risks against which prima don no and boxing kangaroos seek insurance.
