Graves Aicken, chemist, charged with employing the assistant on the Wednesday half holiday. The assistant was cmployedYo attend to “ urgent medicine ” customers and received a half-holiday on another day. Defendant’s counsel urged that chemists’ shops were exempted under the Act. ohe Magistrate thought the law prohibited any chemist’s assistant not within the definition of shopkeeper supplying anything on a half-holiday to anyone. Defendant was convicted, and fined no-
minally, Is and costs. WAIROA, yesterday. Two important eases in the Native Appellate Court have been decided. In the Waipapa case, the Court dismissed the appaeal, upholding the i Ccisioi. in a former case. In Hereieretau B, the appeals arc upheld and an order made in the lower Court cancelled. This is the most unpoitI ant judgment that has been given in this district, being very far reaching in its effects, and it will possibly revolutionise the decisions given m the Courts in previous years. Ihe business of the Appellate Court is expected to occupy only a few days, after which the Judges sit as a Native I Laud Court. The Mohaka and Arananui eases will first be taken, _ and there is every probability of their oc-
