GAIRLOCH WRECK.

THE ENQUIRY,

Bv Teleeraph—Press Association,

Auckland, last night. The Magisterial enquiry into the wreck of tho Gairloch opened this morning. The Collector of Customs said the apparent cause was inefficient steering and want of sufficient supervision of the conduct of tho man at the wheel and the look-out men on an exceptionally dark and thick night. If this was proved by the evidence Captain Austen would appear by implication guilty of negligent navigation, as he was on deck for a long I time previous and at the time of the vessel striking.
