PRESENTATION TO MISS HEANY
Tho members of the Presbyterian Choir adjourned to the schoolroom alter choir practice last night to bid good-bye to Miss Heany, who is leaving tnis morning for Mercury Lay to be married. The Lev. J. G. Paterson, on behalf of the choir, presented the young lady with Adoz handsome fruit knives, -)doz silver spoons, and a pair of choice sugar tongs (silver), enclosed in a morocco-covered case, In making the presentation Mr Paterson referred to the many valued and kindly services rendered by Miss Heany, and with the gifts there was an accompanying missive, which was as follows “To Miss Heany.—The members of the Choir join in bidding you farewell, and express their gratification with the many services you have rendered, both for the Church and tor the public generally in assisting at concerts for philanthropic objects, and trust that your married life will be a happy one, and should you visit Gisborne at a future date we hope to again have your services in the Choir.” Mr Paterson expressed his regret in one sense at losing the services of Miss Heany, but said that be was very pleased to make the presentation on behalf of the choir, and heartily joined in the good wishes for Miss Heany’s future happiness. The young lady suitably responded. After refreshments had been handed round and there had been a sociable chat the gathering broke up with the singing of “ God be with you till we meet again.” The members of the Hockey Club met last evening in Whinray’s Hall for the purpose of making a presentation to Miss Heany on the occasion of her approaching marriage. There was a large attendance of members and friends, and a very pleasant evening was spent. The presentation, which took the form of a very handsome oaken salad bowl, suitably inscribed, was made by Mr L. Maude, who in a neat and appropriate speech conveyed to Miss Heany tho best wishes of members of the Hockey Club for her future happiness. Mr Maude referred to the valuable services that Miss Heany had rendered to the Club, and stated that she would be much missed by a wide circle of friends in Gisborne. Miss Heany suitably responded, and the rest of the evening was devoted to a social.
