WOOL SALES. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyrigh London, Jan. 28.

At the tallow sales 975 casks were offered and 525 sold. Prices for all kinds are unchanged. Wool is brisk of sale. All crossbreds and good merinos have fully maintained their prices. Faulties are 5 per cent, below tho December sales. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, last night.

The Dunedin wool sales, the first of the season, were held this morning. The Farmers’ Agency started. They report a distinct advance on last season’s prices. Groasy merino fetched llld, as compared with 8-]-d, halfbred 9d (last year 7ld), crossbred (B|d (last year 6(d), three-quarter bred 7-]d (last year sid), pieces 5d (last year 3Jd). At a later period Dalgety’s got Is per lb for merino wool, grown by Mr Telford, of Clifton.

Later. —The wool sale was held to-day, when about 19,300 bales were offered. There was a large attendance of buyers, both local and foreign. Fine half-bred and merino wools suitable for local woollen mills were in specially strong demand, the local mill being active competitors. Strong lustrous Lincoln and Leicester wools wero also in improved demand, and all these sorts made a good improvement on last year’s prices. Coarse low grade half-bred wools showed to the worst advantage, and wero all at quite comparatively low values. The range of prices was : Greasy merino 6}d to 101,-d, half-bred fleece sjd to crossbred 4;[d to 7Jd. Compared with last season’s prices all sorts, low half-bred wools excepted, have established an advance of from £d to Id per lb.
