EAST COAST NEWS

TO KOMAR U BAY. (Frovn Our Own Correspondent..) The drought is at last broken up, splendid ruins all along the Coast having replenished the tanks and started the feed growing rapidly, and the country is already looking quite green. Last Monday and Tuo"day nights Mr Whitehouse gave the people here a great treat, his show being thoroughly appreciated both by Natives and Europeans. Mr Whitehouse was also well satisfied, his takings in Tokomaru amounting to £.‘2.1. lie also claims to have broken up the drought, and states that for a number of years now, during his tracks, the rain has

followed him, and on this occasion we have certainly seen it following him from Gisborne to Tuparoa. “ Wherever Whitehouse is there it rains.” The whole Coast is thankful to him, bis show is excellent, and the rain has done incalculable good. The wool carting is nearly finished, and on most of the stations dipping is well under way. Tho Dog Trial this year takes place on tho Ist and 2nd of April. All sheep work should be done by that time, so that ail interested may take part. The Oinapere on Thursday last landed 51 rams (Lincoln) for Mr G. J. White, and a largo cargo of general goods. The landing was somewhat rough and a quantity of grass seed for Mr White and Mr Black got damaged by salt water. This appears to bo unavoidable so long as tho presout primitive mothod of gotting cargo ashore continues. MATA V. TOLAGO BAY.
