CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE DONE, (Per Press Association.) Christchurob.laßt night.
A very sovero thunderstorm and shower of hail passed ovor part of Christchurch this afternoon. The thunder was exceedingly loud, and some time after tho clouds had passed away there was a sudden shower of hailstones as big as pigeons’ eggs. First of all they fell separately, but Boon the shower increased in density, and became very heavy. Largo numbers of glass vorandahs in the streets have been seriously damaged, and several windows broken by the hailstones, which made the ground quite white for a time. The horses in the streets sufi'erod considerably from tho force with which they wero struck by the hailstones. The storm lasted for about fifteen minutes. It was proceded by immense clouds of dust, which enveloped the city.
During tho storm tho ground in Lancaster Park was struck by lightning, and a large rent caused. The track of the storm was very narrow, and no hail fell in some suburbs. News from Leeston states that great damage has been done to tho orops in the Ellesmere district.
