GISBORNE ROWING CLUB’S SCULLING COMPETITION.
On Saturday afternoon tho above club's sculling competition was continued, when H. Symes (lOsec) met C. Buscke (scr). From a capital start Buscke made a great dash and got well in the lead. Symes seemed undisturbed at his opponent’s hot and furious pace, and rowed steadily, taking a long and vigorous Btroke, whilst Buscke continued with a very fast stroke, which soon began to tell on his approach to the jetty. Symes still worked steady,, and opposite Barton’3 drew up with his, rival. Symes, who was in good form,, forged ahead, and won by a length a reads tloud applause. C. Hamilton (50sec) v. 8. Ensor (45sec)' was not as good a race as was expected,. aDd resulted in the former winning easy. This afternoon the semi-final will berowed, when H. Symes (lOsec) meets G. Buscke (30sec), and H. Garrett (35sec)‘ will try conclusions with C. Hamilton' (50sec). Both races should be good ones,, as the competitors are all ia good form.
