RED LETTER DAY ON THE GOLDFIELDS.

The groat schomo of supplying tho goldfields with water wus an accomplished fact on Saturday, which was a red letter day. On the previous day two special trains conveyod Sir John Forrest, Sir Wm. Lyne, Mr Reid, and other Federal members. Tboro wero a largo number of visitors from Perth. The influx was so great that many had to Bleep in the train and in tents.

The town was gaily decorated, and much enthusiasm was shown.

Sir John and Lady Forrest’s carriage, drawn by 24 schoolboys, headed an im posing procession.

The ceremonies of turning on the water in the various centres were performed by Lady Forrest, the Mayoress of Coolgardie, Kalgoorlie, and Boulder City, and into tho great dam by Sir John Forrest. The water is now everywhere abundant in the townships, being supplied at 9d per hundred gallons, instead of as previously 3s 6d and upwards per hundred for condensed water.
