BOWLING TOURNAMENT.
WHATAUPOKO DEFEATS PAL MERSTON.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston North, last night. The bowling tournament continued in magniiicent weather. The most interesting feature of tho day’s play was the defeat of Palmerston, who were thc-* ( > unbeaten, by the Wbataupoko team, of Gisborne. Palmerston won the next two games, and is leading with Napier, both teams having seven wins and a loss. Hastings and Newin liket have six wins and one loss. Wellington has six wins and two losses, and Gisborne five wins and two losses. There was nothing sensational in any of tho games. In the Wellington-New Plymouth match the bowl of the Wellington skip touched a Wellington player’s foot. New Plymouth protested, and Wellington lost the bowl, this practically giving a win to New Plymouth. Palmorstou’s chances for tho champiouship aro considered to bo excellent.

There was glorious weather for tho continuation of the bowling tournament, and play was of a very high standard. Tho Gisborno team started well this morning by defeating Wanganui by 17 to 14, tho game being perhaps the most stubbornly contested seen at tho tournamout, as tho small scoring indicates. In their Bocond match Gisborno mot Dannevirko, and contrary to expectation had a roverse. Dannovirke had ton to their opponents’ nil, and Gisborno gotting a good start soon had fifteen points beforo Dannevirko again scored. The latter drew level, and Gisborne again increased their score to 20. Luck favorod Dannevirko towards tho close, and the game onded in their favor hv 23 to 21. In their third match Gisborne signally dofoated Ponßonby by 27 to 15, the game being a runaway one, the score at one time being 21 to 7. Wbataupoko rnado a great name for themselves by defoatiug Carterton by 86 to 0, and following it up by loworing thf colors of Pulmorston by 26 to 15. They, victories were discounted somewhat by the “ What Ohs ” (as they are now called, tho name of Wbataupoko being too much for tho bowlers) being defeated by Wanganui by 21 to 11. Great crodit is due to Whataupoko for tho match they played against Palmorston and Carterton. All tho members of the team were playing splendidly, and Massey was especially brilliant.
Kaiti boat Pahiatua by 22 to 18, v went down to Patoa and Newmarket, So far Gisborne and Whataupoko sto woll in. Tho formor has fivo wins an two losses, and Whataupoko four wins and two losses. Kaiti has two wins and fivo losses. Mr Akers arrived in Palmerston to-day, and wus a spectator at tho tournament. Other Gisbornites present are Messrs T. Adair and W. J. Cox, both of whom are much interested in tho play. The weather promises to be fine for the rest of the tournament.
