Genoral Chaffee, who commanded the American troops at the siege of Pekin, speaking at Brooklyn, said he knew where eighty million dollars of treasure wns hidden in the Forbidden City, Pekin. He planned the siege, retaining sufficient to pay the indemnity and returning the rest to the Chinese, hut President McKinloy forbade him. ATTEMPTED ASSASSINATION. London, Jan. 12.
The Spanish Ambassador in London states that l’ieto did not tire at King Alfonso, hut at Sotomayr, who had refused him an interview. Soldiers cut Ficto with a sword, preventing him firing a second shot.
