HAWKE’S BAY RACES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Napier, last night. The Hawke’s Bay Joekoy Club’s summer meeting was concluded to-day. The attendance was again large. The sum of ■641557 was invested on tho tote. Tho racing was tho best that has been seen on tbe ground for a long time, and Mr Ulie Shannon, who made tho handicaps for today's events, in the absence of Mr J. E. Henrys, carno in for warm congratulation upon the excellence of his work. The results were : ,

Grandstand Handicap.—Secret Society 1, Good Intent 2, Assayer 8. Scratched : ltoseplot, Whirlwind, Catspan. Also started : Oirjgo, Morigouui, Stepdaughter. Wou from end to end, by two lengths. Time 1.80, divs. HS 9s and .63 Is.

Scurry Hack.—Maoriland 1, Covenant Maid 2, Optimist 3. Scratched : Lifeboat. Won front start to finish, by a short length. Time 1.8, divs. JCG 8s and 15s. Hurdles. —Eclair 1, Abergeldio 2. Also started : Cobra, Frost, Vethek. Cobra and Vathek ran off, and Frost broke down. Won easily by four lengths. Time 4.0, div. H2 4s.

About 12,000 persons were present. Tho totalisator receipts for the day were .616,827, making a grand total of H 70,487 for the meeting. Tho results were : Ascot Handicap.—Despatch 1, Ragabrash 2, Putty 3. Also started : St. Olga, Francos Lovejoy, Grey Seaton. Won by a length. No time taken. Div.. £7 16s 6d.

Sylvia Handicap.—Kamo 1, Idasa 2, Bonbeur 3. All started. Won by a clear length. Time 1.18. A protest was entered but was disallowed. Div. H2 ss. Grandstand. —Val Rosa 1, Tho Needle 2, Golden Rose 3. Scratched : Idas, Northumberland. Won by two lengths, a length between second and third. Time, 2.104- Divs., £6 Is and HI 16s 6d. Royal Stakes. —King Log 1, Wairiki 2, Spalpeen 3.
