The school children also re dered two songs. "Won’t you buy m, pretty flowers," sung by three little girh (Daisy Cooper, D. Richardson and F. Dyatt) holding baskets of flowers, was very good. Messrs Sloan brothers gave a very amußing dialogue. The following gentleman responded to encores: Messrs Dyatt, Taylor, A. Anderson, and T. Cooper. Tho accompaniments wero played hy the Misses Reynolds, Siddles, and Morrison. At tho conclusion, tho chairman, on Behalf of the school committee, said he desired to thank all those who had assisted at the entertainment, and also the audience for their attendance. Tho proceeds amounted to about £5, which was considered very satisfactory. Mrs Tait kindly lent bsr piano for the occasion. Cricket: A match was arranged to be played at Morere on Boxing-Day between teams representing Nuhaka and Mahia. I notice that in tho report of tho recent match played in Mr Gaddum’s paddock, the name of D. Anderson was omitted from the highest scorers ; his scoro was 10. This was evidently overlooked by tho printer.
: Tennis :At a meeting of the Nuhaka • Tennis Club Committee, held at Morere On Saturday, the Secretary was authorized to procure the necessary tennis requisites, The matter of fixing the date for tho initiatory game was held over until the next meeting of the committee. Shearing : Shearing operations are almost completed, and on account of the unsatisfactory state of the river at Stewart’s crossing, the bulk of the wool has been conveyed to Gisborne instead of Waikokopu. On Tuesday, the 23rd inst., the Morere Bchool was closed for the Christmas holidays, and a treat was provided for the children by some of the ladies of the district. The children assembled in Mr Tail’s paddock, where various games were indulged in during the afternoon, after which an excellent tea was served by Mesdames Stewart, Eichardson, and Tait, and Miss Proudlock. After ample justice had been done to the good things, the young, sters adjourned to the schoolroom, where a Christmas tree, laden with all kinds of very nice presents, had been placed. The prizes were distributed by drawing lots, and afforded much pleasure and excitement to the children. Mrs Eichardson deserves special mention, being chiefly instrumental in collecting money and pro. curing presents for the Christmas tree.
