We agree with the Minister of Public Works —the co-opsrative system has been largely responsible for the rate of progress of the Waipara-Cheviot railway. Had the line been constructed by contract, it would undoubtedly have reached Cheviot long ago. We observe, however, that the Minister himself is not quite satisfied with this giddy rate of railway construction, and he is going to employ double the number of men on the line and work two gangs. That is, at all events, good news, But we are reminded that Mr Hall-Jones has made aud broken pledges before in regard to the laying of the lino to Cheviot. However, wo are assured by a greater than Mr Hall-Jones that “ Canterbury has a very strong claim upon tho Government, because it has really sent to Parliament nothing but Government supporters, and it would be the height of ingratitude if the Government did not take that into consideration.” The electors will note that they are to be rewarded acoording to their deserts, and if they remain faithful to Seddonism they will get all the railways they waat-ia titas.-—Truth.
