ST. JOHN’S AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION.

PRESENTATION OF CERTIFICATES. Tho presentation of certificates gained at tho recent examination held under the auspices of St. John's Ambulance Association took place last evening at the High School. There was a large attendancc, Dr. Fisher presiding. Tho certificates were presented by tho Chairman, who reforred to the good work done by the competitors in tho several classes. He hoped that tho ladies would profit by tho instruction that they had received. He was well pleased with the interest that had been shown, and was sure that tho worK done in tho first aid and nursing classes was a good deal beyond the

average. First aid certificates, with honors, were presented to the following:—Misses F. K. Adams, S. Cusseris, Furarn, and F. Mathoson. First grade: Mrs Winter, Misses M. Duncan, E. Colobrook, F. Mclntosh, Stewart, K. Cusson. Second grade : Mesdames Rees, Williams, W. Gibson, Misses M. Stubbs, A. Lewis, Mclntosh, E. Nisoett, L. Jones, and A. Gill.

PRESENTATION TO DR. FISHERAt tho conclusion of tho distribution of certificates, another pleasing ceremony

took place, Dr. Fisher being presented by tho ladies with a silver-mounted oaken inkstand and pocket-ease and pencil. The presentation was mado by Miss Faram, who reforred to the kind attention and patience that Dr. Fisher had shown towards tho classes. The members were anxious to show their appreciation of his kindness, and asked his acceptance of tho gifts previously mentioned. Mr East also mado praisoworthy reference to tho kindness of Dr. Fisher, and expressed tho indebtedness of members for tho instruction they had reeoived. He was suro they had also greatly benefited from tho course of instruction. (Applause). Dr. Fishor, in thanking the ladies, said

that bo intended leaving Gisborno in July next. The gifts would bo pleasing souvenirs of his visit hore. Ho greatly appreciated their kindness, which he would always remember. Reference was also mado to the sorvices of Dr. Cole, who had conducted the examination, and a hoarty voto of thanks was accorded to him.
