(By Telegraph —Press Association.) Auckland, last night. The inquest on the body of Eva Laura Macdermott, who died on the oth inst., was concluded to-day. Tho inquest had been adjourned on tho application of the jury in order that an analysis might be made of certain medicines which it was stated deceased had received from the Polypathic Medical Institute at WellingtoMr Pond stated that he had analysed tho medicine and lozenges. The lozenges contained morphia, tho quantity contained in doses directed on the lid of the box ; the box being equal to tho minimum of the British pharmaoopoea standard. Tne medicine contained tiuciure of nux vomica and morphia, but the proportions were below the minimum ol Britloli Pnarmaeopoca. , Dr Bennet said he agreed with Mr Pond that the lozenges were innocuous. He also considered tho other medicines harmless. In eases such as consumption medicines as given were quite recognised as proper treatment, as a tonic, and a sedative, but, in his opinion, no man, however competent, could treat a consumptive case satisfactorily by one inspection in four months. (The jury returned a verdict of death, from consumption, this being in accord anee with the evidence given at the opening of the enquiry.
