West End and County were to have met in the Saturday competition, but at 2 o’clock there wore only four County representatives prosent, while West End had a very strong eleven on the field. After a conference, it was decided that West End should meet All-comers. West End batted first, and Hodge and Poananga made a capital start, putting on 111 for the first wickot, when Hodgo put his leg in front of ono from Whyte, and retired aftor a good innings for 17. Poananga surprised his friends, and batted finely, keeping tho ball well down, and playing corroct cricket. Ho was a long time at tho wickets, and had 20 opposite his name when Whyte bowled him. The rest of the side did nothing against the bowling of Hood and Whyte, who both did groat execution, and the innings unexpectedly closod for 61. H. Sharp and W. Gibson made a good start for the All* comers, and put on 35 rapidly befoi# Sharp was bowled by Sheridan for a stylishly-compiled 24. Porter made 9 before Sheridan bowled him, and Whyte was dismissed by Plimmor after scoring 3. Hood joined Gibson, who was putting the runs on at a good pace, and the pairplayed out to time, the score then standing at 84 for throe wickets ; Gibson, not out, 37 ; Hood, not out, 4. The Allcomers thus won by seven wickets and 23 runs. Hodga, Plimmor, and Sheridan did the bowling for Wost End. The wicket played well, and tbo game was most enjoyable. __________
