LORD HAWKE’S TEAM V. AUCKLAND. VISITORS LOSE SEVEN WICKETS FOR 242. By Telegraph —Press Association. Auckland, last night.
The cricket match between Lord Hawke’s team and an Auckland eleven commenced to-day. There was a fair attendance of the public. Auckland lost tho toss, and the Englishmen elected to bat on a splendid wicket. The weather was dull aud the light bad, and as tho afternoon advanced drizzling rain sot in, which told against tho bowlers, making the ball greasy. The visitors were at the wickets three hours and a-quarter, and compiled 242 for the loss of 7 wickets. Fane, the Essex crack, put together the top score (82), but gave one or two chances. Stemson took four wickets (all clean bowled) for 06. The fielding on tho whole was good. The following are tho scores : Englishmen— First Innings. P. F. Warner, c Neill, b Lusk ... 34 0. J.
