A Committee of the House of Commons considered the I-lotise of Lords’ amendments in the education Biii. With a view to helping Mr Moor house's amendment, a proviso was moved, stipulating that it was not intended to increase the public burdens. This, however, was dropped at the instance of Sir James Ferguson. By u majority of OK the original amendment of Mr Moorehousc was affirmed, and Sir James Ferguson's motion carried hy one hundred and ninety-seven to one hundred and fifty-nine. Mr Redmond and liny-six' Nationalists voted with the majority. The Unionists were greatly divided. I Tiie Radicals protested that it was a sham proviso intended to overcome tinanciai privileges.
