ELLERSLIE TRAINING NOTES. During the past week tho mornings at Ellerslio have been very pleasant, and though there are no champions just now at headquarters the work has been entertaining enough. On Saturday morning a lot of work was got through, ehielly on the 1 tan. Though the course proper was open outside the hurdles to those who liked to uso it, most of those who gave their horses sound work stuck to tho softer going. Tho tan just now is a boon to those who have . horses that aro sore, or that at one time 1 or other havo been knocked out. But for ' tho tan gallop the Auckland Cup this year would have dwindled down to oven smallor proportions than at present, as Bluejackot
—twice hero of tho race as tho result of having had tho tan to work on, Mars, Goronot, and Northumberland might not havo trained on. All theso are now doing fair work. Mars got through a satisfactory task with Tho Needle once round tho tan after cantering several furlongs. Matamataharakeko traversed two miles with Bluejacket, and after dropping back about half a dozen lengths four furlongs from homo, where Nor’-west joined in, ridden out, overtook Bluejacket and beat him homo in a decisive manner. Northumberland did a usoful gallop over a little over a mile and a-half on tho tan. Grey Seaton going with him, Eosella bringing them home tho last miio. Coronet and Tresham travorsed a mile and a quartor strongly, llohoro galloped well over four furlongs on tho tan with Camille ; AVairiki and Landlock ran tho same distanco well. These were tho leading gallops.
