The lit. Petersburg correspondent ot the Daily Mail says the cashiering of Grand Duko Paul Alcxundrovitch, uncle of the Czar, is flic sensation of the day. Three years ago the Grand Duke began to pay attention to .Baroness Pistolkoff, wife of the adjutant on the staff of Grand Duke Vladimir. The affair became notorious at- a court hall last winter, when Baroness Pistolkoff appeared, wearing the jewels of Grand Duke Paul's dead wife, Princess Alexandra of Greece. The Czar observed the jewels and ordered llio baroness to leave the hall instantly. After obtaining a divorce the Baroness induced Grand Duke Paul to promise to marry her, despite tiic Czar’s warnings. Several Prussian clergymen declined to marry the two, hut they dually succeeded in having the ceremony performed at Leghorn, October 10th. The Czar’s answer to Grand Duke Paul’s defiance speedily followed in his being cashiered. It is said the Grand Duke also has been banished from the Prussian Court for ten years. Grand Duko Paul loses ail emoluments and must now live on a small private income. The two are now in Paris. The Baroness is not pretty, but she is witty.
