A LIBERAL DINNER.

MR CARROLL ONE OF THE GEESTS.

By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston North, last night.

Mr Wood, M.H.R., was entertained at a banquet to-night. There was an attendance of over 200 Liberals from all parts of the district. An apology was read for the absence of the Premier, who was suddenly called South by the illness of his daughter. Sir Joseph Ward and the Hon. J. Carroll were present. The function was an unqualified success, and a fine tribute to the popularity of the new member. In the course of his speech Sir Joseph Ward denied that he and the Premier were at variance over the financial policy of the Government.
