CHRISTCHURCH ELECTION
[BV IBLEGllil'H.—rncss ASSOCIATION.] Christchurch, last night. Tiie election in Christchurch lias been very quiet and orderly. The polling in the early part oi tiie day was exceptionally light compared with other elections, but from the time the shops and factories closed for tlio half-holiday electors streamed in steadily, so that it was expected that the polling would be well up to the average. In tho evening, largo crowds assembled in Cathedral Square, where the results wore displayed by means oi a magic-lantern, the ligures being drawn on immense sheets. There seemed to be rnoro interest taken in tho local-option poll than in the Parliamentary election, tho latter being to a groat extent a matter of the personal popularity of tho candidates. For tho licensing poll, both factions worked hard, but tliero was absolutely no ill feeling displayed.
