Matters of importance to the Government must he attended to immediately hy a Minister of the Grown, and as my Colleagues are nearly all busily engaged in the South, the responsibility has fallen upon me of attending to these matters. Could 1 consult my own wishes, you may tie sure I would (Stay in Gisborne till the Election was over, but- imperative duty calls me away. On my return I shall address meetings in- Gisborne and in some of the surrounding centres. Meanwhile, l trust that no effort will he spared to make the p,oiling as large as, if not larger, than that, of the last election. Let nothing he taken for granted, but let everyone possible go to the poll on TUESDAY .NEXT. I tender very sincere apologies lor my absence, and L assure you that it is necessity alone which compels it. The district, will not suffer in the estimation of the Government, or Parliament, because its Representative has had to. leave his constituents to perform important public duties. ' J. CARROLL.
