MR LYSNAR AND MR PATERSON
(To the Editor of (he Times). Sir.—ln your last- issue, the Rev. Mr Paterson wasted about half-a-columu of yum valuable space in trying to throw dust over or explain away uuiriie and misleading words which he had written to assist, the Prohibition cause. 1 have neither time, nor yet am I inclined to find patience to waste .lust, now over the rev. gentleman . but 1 say that, the report of wliat, I stated at the Wuercnga-a-Jiiha, meeting, as reported in your issufc of the 17th inst... is true, and the statements of the rev. gentleman which \ questioned, and which appear in her letteus published in your issue e- 1 tho l-lt.h mst., are both untrue and misleading. I would refer the rev, gentleman, and any other or your readers who are interested in the matter, to the letter ami report published above, which speak lor themselves. I ma.y tell the rev. gentleman that 1 <iiit not, call him a. tool, nor yet do 1 regard him as .such ; hut, on the contrary, look upon and consider him an intelligent, Christian-minded man, with the dignity and decorum of a church resting upon his shoulders ; and for this reason held him responsible to the full force and effect oi his written words. I would also like to let the rev. gentleman know that since, my Waerenga-a-liika meeting, I have made similar remarks at my meetings at Makauri : ,nd Patutahi, and intend repeating them at my other meetings. At tho same lime, 1 deplore and regret Dial any person tilling the position held by the rev. gentleman should -so far disregard truth and fairness as fo give mo reason or grounds for questioning his truthfulness ami fairness. 1 a concluding, f would challenge the rev. gentleman to get the declaration which he refers to in Ins letter upon another head made, and 1 warn him and tho |<crson who volunteer'.' to make it. that 1 will see he »s held legally responsible for the accuracy of his declaration ; for 1 am prepared to prove in a Court of law that it is ;l deli Iterate, untrue, and false statement.—l am, etc., W. DOUGLAS LY,SNAIL
