DIVORCE CASES

At the Supreme Court to-day, two divorce cases were taken, in the case Eaton v. Eaton (wife’s "petition), the respondent was not represented. The parties had lived together for seven months after marriage, when respondent went to Oil ns tcl lurch, and had never sent.his wife one penny since. The respondent told petitioner’s brother that he would never he able to provide a house, and the best thing she could do was to get a divorce. A decree nisi was granted, to be made absolute within three months. In the case of brown v. brown, the husband’s petition, on the graimds of desertion, respondent, who is believed to he living in Wellington, was unrepresented. A decree nisi was passed, to lie made absolute in three months.

The municipal abattoirs were formally opened this afternoon. The ceremony being conducted by the Mayor and Councillors. DUNEDIN, last night

Alexander bannalyne, owner oi the Matanniki eulate, who had been ill for some time, died on Monday somewhat suddenly. In giving him medicine his wife, in the darkened room mistook liniment for medicine. Remedies were applied when the mistake was discovered, and medical aid sought, but death resulted. After hearing the evidence at the in(pjcst the jury returned a verdict that the cause ot death was failure oi the heart's action, accelerated by a dose of poisonous liniment inadvertently administered by Mrs Bannalyne. but no blame could be attributable to anyone, and that all possible means of recovery were taken under the circumstances.
