j By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, last night. The ceremony to mark the commencement of the electric tram service in Auckland proved most interesting and in everyway successful. The proceedings started at the power house, when the Mayor started the machinery. The party then walked to Queen street, and the first car was set in motion by Sir John Logan Campbell. About ijjO guests accepted the invitations to lunch. The Mayor of V. clltngton was represented at the ceremony by Mr Evans, member of the \\ ellington CityCouncil, The Minister for Public orks sent au apology for his inability to attend.
