A fatal accident occurred on the s.s. Wakalere to-day. A young man named Earnest I’rolil, aged 13, working a steam winch whilst raising cargo leaned forwards to guide a rope on to the barrel of the winch. llis foot, slipped and falling forward iiis knee struck the bar, turning on the steam, which set the winch going rapidly. Mis left arm was drawn around Ihe barrel, which wins broken at the.base. Uis skull was fractured. He was unconscious when drawn out and died eu route to the hospital His parents reside at I’onxonby..
