MR LYSHAR’S CAMPAION.
Hl.' W. Douglas Lysjiar addressed a large meeting in the Patutahi Hall Jasti evening, in opposition to nolicense. and he received a most cordial reception. He replied at length to the statements which have recently appeared in the press that he was being paid to lecture against Prohibition, and he gave an emphatic denial to the same. In the course of a forcible address he showed that no license Uil s 1101 the true remedy to cope with the liqucrr- ll'ufiie. .mid lie urged the audience to do all :u theur power against Prohibition. A.t hip meeting at Matawhero on Wednesday evening Mr Lysnar, referring to Uic reports that had been circulated throughout the district to the effect that he was being paid by the Licensed Victuallers’ Association to lecture against Prohibition, said that he was prepared to make.a declaration denying that directly or indirectly or in any manner whatsoever lie was being'paid by the publicans or the Licensed Victuallers’ Association, and he would ask the Association to make a similar declaration through their chairman and secretary, the declaration to be published. The declarations referred lo were drawn up and signed before mr Barton, S.M., yesterday, and appear in another column to-day. The Waiapu Temperance Reform League has already a . membership oi nearly one hundred and fifty members. Mr Lysnar states that he has received promises of support from all parts of the district, and no efforts will be .spared to bring pressure on the Government to compel them to institute reforms.
